Beer #16 – Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout
Breckenridge Brewing Company has a great series of commercials that parody Miller Lite. You can check out a few here. So it was a combination of those commercials as well as Colorado’s awesome beer reputation that had me picking up some of their beer the other day. It’s still fairly chilly out so I’m drinking dark and full bodied beers until it gets a little warmer. So here’s one for you, the Oatmeal Stout from Breckenridge Brewing Company.
Aroma: Roasty malts and chocolate, followed by coffee notes.
Appearance: Pours thick and almost black. Nice lacing on the glass. Foam is caramel color and thick.
Flavor: Roasted malts, very subtle grassy hops, followed by warm coffee and a great chocolate finish. Bittersweet notes emerge after you keep on tasting after you’ve swallowed.
Mouthfeel: Thick, coats the mouth well, full bodied with a nice subtle texture.
Overall: What a great stout. The mouthfeel is great. I love a dark beer with some thick grit to it and this has a wonderfully complex taste. At 4.9%, this is a beer I could have a few of on a cold night.
